Exclusive Interview With Rising Star with nearly 60 Million Views, Audrey Mika
Emotion seeps through the speakers and the screen. Bold enough to sing out loud in her bedroom, confident clutching a plastic pink microphone, and unafraid to shed a tear or two on camera, Audrey Mika enchanted a growing diehard audience and impressively amassed nearly 60 million views and 1.2 million YouTube subscribers in under a year’s time. Along the way, she received early acclaim from Paper, Flaunt, OnesToWatch, and more. Renowned for holding nothing back, the same unbridled feelings filtered into her 2020 RCA Records debut EP, 5 A.M. In each track, the Oakland-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and producer invites an unparalleled level of intimacy. “Shut the blinds, get under the covers, and fall into the music,” the…
Where are you from?
I’m from Oakland, California. I grew up on a little hill and didn’t really have too many friends so I’d always be singing or dancing in my yard.
Tell us about your EP ‘5A.M.’, how was the work on it, who were the people who contributed?
“Starting with the title. All of the songs and ideas were created between 2 and 5 am. I thought it was the perfect theme for the project. I was lucky enough to write with my best friend Amisha, and create concepts, visuals, etc. I got to work with some amazing producers and engineers who really brought the ideas to life. 5am embodies the works of being a human and having real true emotions and not being afraid of speaking up about them.”
Your breakthrough into the music/acting industry was fast, do you remember the moment you realized you were a rising star in the field?
Very bold question, to be honest, I think really think it’s all really hit me yet. I still don’t know what the hell I’m doing. Every day I’m just grateful that this is truly my life and I am living my dream with my best friends.
Who is the next artist you would like to collaborate with?
I would love to collab with either Amine or Daniel Caesar. I know they’re very different artists but I think it’s cool to be able to collaborate with anyone. Makes it seem like you can do anything
Favorite moment from your career?
Signing a major label deal was definitely a highlight. But being on tour is the most rewarding feeling I’ve ever had and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Who were the people who influenced you the most from whom you were inspired?
Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Kehlani, Jhene Aiko are just some artists that really hit home for me. I loved how they were able to put every emotion they had into their writing and it really inspired me to write that way.
What other things do you do besides making music?
Nothing. All I do is music. From sunrise to sunset. This is my life now and I honestly don’t even want to do anything else but this.
What are your goals for the future?
“To make my first debut studio album with all the people I love. Being able to tell a story through music is a goal in itself, and being able to do that with such talented people is my favorite part of this journey.”
Please write a message to your fans.
“I love you with all my heart. I wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you :)”
