Exclusive interview with Infected mushroom
After two decades of making waves in the scene, Infected Mushroom has earned their reputation as a groundbreaking legend within electronic dance music. Twice ranked amongst the world’s “10 Best DJ’s” by DJ Magazine, with streaming numbers in the tens of millions and a cult following of die-hard fans, the LA-based, Israeli-bred duo has created one of the most powerful kingdoms in the world of electronic music.
The combined force of Israeli producers Amit “Duvdev” Duvdevani and Erez Eisen, Infected is world renowned for their sonic innovations, genre-defying sound, and unrivaled production quality. This unique, trademark sound is created by hypnotic arrangements, complex layered melodies, and their willingness to experiment with multiple genres.
While widely recognized as pioneers of psytrance music, over the years Infected has demonstrated their ability to not only break the rules – but create their own rulebook entirely, and inspire other artists to do the same. Since 1999, they have been on a non-stop worldwide tour, selling out shows and headlining festivals around the globe.
Where are you from?
We are both from the Haifa area of Israel.
When did you start making music?
We’ve always been musical. We were both classically trained on piano as kids and both joined bands at an early age.
How do you describe your music?
Favorite moment from your career?
Tough to say, playing for 100,000 people on the beach of Rio on New Years some years back was pretty legendary.
Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
We like Primus, Metallica, Depeche Mode, and many others. We are constantly being inspired by artists young and old.
What is your producing software?
We’ve used Cubase for years and recently started getting into Ableton.
What other things do you do besides making music?
Spend time with our families. We have seven kids between the two of us, so home time is valued!
What is your favorite track of all time?
Tough to say, Bohemian Rhapsody was pretty epic when it first came out and stands the test of time. Proper journey.
What is your best-producing tip?
Think outside of the box, try things that seem absurd or outlandish. Sometimes the best choices are mistakes from experimenting.
Why did you start making music?
Music was our passion since we were kids. We never wanted to express a deeper meaning or hidden message. We are inspired by seeing people go mental to our music, and that’s what keeps us going.
What are your upcoming gigs?
We have upcoming shows at EDC in Vegas, as well as Ultra in Korea, Singapore. Also a Russia tour, lots of dates Europe. The fun never stops… really too many to list, check out our website, infected-mushroom.com.
Hope to catch you at a show soon!
What are your goals for the future?
We’ve been at it for 22 years. We just want to keep making out fans happy and keep evolving musically. We’ve been really into making our own software effects plug-ins, and the response has been tremendous, so we will keep making art and pushing the boundaries of sound!
What advice can you give for the young music producers/DJs:
Never give up, the only way your dreams won’t come true is if you stop.
Please write a message to your fans:
We love you all, and we are excited to infect you soon!
