Exclusive Spotlight Interview with rising DJ and Music Producer 'Dari'
Espen aka "DARI" once got a compliment for one of his songs that went like this "It makes me want to go on a vacation". And with that his passion for happy, warm tropical vibes was instantly the foundation of which he uses in all his tracks. Add in the fact that he lives in the middle of cold Norway it's not hard to get the interest and love for warm and sunny music which takes you to a white beach, warm weather and tropical drinks.
Where are you from? Born and raised in the city of Trondheim, Norway. I really love this city, so I hope to be able to keep living here while working with my music.
When did you start making music? Born and raised in the city of Trondheim, Norway. I really love this city, so I hope to be able to keep living here while working with my music.
So, at that point I basically quit producing, until September 2018.
I just made my decision to gear up, get back in and simply never stop again.
How do you describe your music? Melodic, probably defines the most. I always try to make music that makes you feel like you’re on vacation, holiday or some dancefloor having a great time.
Who is your biggest musical inspiration? It started with Avicii, so I still got to mention him, but lately I’ve been really into the styles of Matoma, Kygo, Sam Feldt and the whole catchy tropical/deep house style.
What is your producing software? Ableton Live with a bunch of plugins and VSTs.
What other things do you do besides making music? In the summer I do mountain biking and, in the winter, I go hiking up mountains in the search of good powder snow to ski. In between I spend some time at the gym and hang out with my friends in Trondheim.
What is your best-producing tip?
Less is more! Every time I start putting a track together, I experiment with a lot of sounds and in the end I always remove a lot and finetune the selection of sounds and drums I land on using.
Favorite moment from your career?
As my career hasn’t been that long to be honest, I must say that getting one of my latest singles signed to Magic Club Records which got a massive YouTube channel is probably up there.
What is your favorite track of all time? That’s a tough one. Tim Berg – Bromance. That track never seize to put me in a good mood!
Why did you start making music? I watched some videos of Tim in the studio going through his tracks and I started to think that this is something I could and would like to do as well, the most motivating thing is being able to make music my friends enjoy!
What are your goals for the future? At the moment I’m saving to upgrade my DJ setup so I can properly practice mixing and hopefully land more gigs. And it would really be a dream come true to release an EP or even just a single on a big record label within 1-2 years.
What advice can you give for the young music producers/DJs?
The more music you finish and publish, the better you get! No doubt!
Don’t get hung up that your last single didn’t get signed or doesn’t have 10k plays after a week. Keep posting and promoting your own stuff while studying techniques to improve your next work!
Please write a message to your fans: Thanks to everyone that takes time to listen to my music! It really exceeded all my expectations I had when I started doing music seriously last year, so I’m really grateful!
